In early September, the 7th-grade football team won a game 27-12 on home turf. Bowie defeated Crockett by a total of 15 points! Our skill and teamwork played a key part in this victory. Crockett couldn’t handle our talent and synergy because this year we are different. This year, we are better. This year, we are united. This year, we are examples of what it means to be a true Bowie cub! This is what has truly led us to this victory.
Heartbeats, One Team
Last year, the 7th-grade Bowie football team lost all of their games. This year, the 7th-grade football team is starting strong and winning most of their games. This matters because it is part of the Bowie culture to win games and compete. This also shows the progression that our team made this year compared to last year. When we do this, we are representing our school.
Ethan Flores, a 7th grade football player, said, “I want to bring Bowie a championship banner, and I want to do it for my friends and team, who I have known for years.”

Heart on the field, Soul in the game
It took hard work and dedication to defeat Crockett. The team had to work together in unity to accomplish their goal, just like Coach Mathews said, “To make a team successful, the team needs to realize that they need to play for each other and something bigger than themselves.”
Physical readiness and mental fortitude played a big part in the win.
Coach Matthews also said that “It took consistent practice and good work ethics.”. It is also important to have a positive mindset, like one of our student athletes, Ethan Flores. As he says, “I never gave up, and encouraged my teammates to do the same.”

Underdog
As the underdogs, the odds of winning were very low. We were the underdogs because we lost 8 games last season. For this team, losing was the expectation, but we pushed through and found our way to a well-deserved, hard-fought victory.
