Lexie Mata: Dedication and Passion on the Trumpet

Lexie Mata, Bowie’s All-City trumpet player, achieved an incredible milestone—making All-City for the second year in a row! But did you know she originally wanted to play a different instrument?

“I ended up choosing trumpet, and I’m so glad I did,” Lexie shared.

To prepare, Lexie balanced her practice sessions carefully. She practiced before and after school and even worked with Mr. A and a private music teacher. “I made sure not to overdo it,” Lexie explained. Her hard work and determination paid off, and now she’s celebrating another All-City success.

Nolan Caro: A Rising Star on the Tuba

For seventh grader Nolan Caro, this year’s All-City audition was full of firsts. Not only was it his first time auditioning, but he also placed first chair for honors band tubas!

“I was really nervous going into it,” Nolan admitted. But he put in the time—spending about 50 hours practicing his music—and the results speak for themselves.

“I love playing the tuba,” Nolan said with a big smile. “I plan to keep playing for a long time.”

Both Lexie and Nolan’s stories highlight the power of hard work and a passion for music. Bowie is proud to have such talented musicians representing the school!
